Ahmed Amin was elected president of the Ouled Oumran commune in the Sidi Bennour province on Sunday morning, succeeding his son, Abdelkrim Amin, who resigned from the council's presidency following his victory of a parliamentary seat under the banner of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), after defecting from the Constitutional Union Party.
Ahmed Amin, who is around 90 years old, secured the unanimous support of the council members, receiving 15 votes out of 15, during an extraordinary session dedicated to acknowledging the former president's resignation, electing his successor, and finalizing the formation of the new bureau.
Ahmed Amin had previously presided over the commune for many years, before being succeeded by his son, who held the presidency for three consecutive terms. During that time, his father served as the first deputy president. Now, he returns to lead the council after his son transitioned to parliamentary work.
Abdelkrim Amin had been stripped of his membership in the House of Representatives by a decision of the Constitutional Court last August, following his resignation from the Constitutional Union Party, under which he was elected during the previous term. He then joined the Authenticity and Modernity Party and ran in the recent legislative elections under its banner, winning a parliamentary seat.
