HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
The Criminal Court of First Instance at the Court of Appeal in Meknes issued sentences totaling 73 years in prison against 15 students attending two secondary schools in the Hamriya district, following their involvement in the case of a student's death last February.
According to judicial data, the court sentenced six minor students to 12 years in prison each, while two adult students were convicted to 15 years in prison each. The court also issued a sentence of one year in prison against a third adult defendant after they were found guilty of the charges against them. The court ordered the two adult students sentenced to 15 years to pay civil compensation of 12 million centimes to the victim's parents. The events of the case date back to February 25th of this year, when four students were accused of assaulting a colleague on his way home after a football training session, using a white weapon and with premeditation, which led to his death without the intention to kill. Two others were also prosecuted, one of whom was a minor, on charges of participating in the same criminal acts. The case caused a shock in educational circles and the city in general, and brought back to the forefront the debate about the phenomenon of violence in the environment of educational institutions and the need to strengthen preventive measures to protect students.
