With the upcoming electoral deadlines approaching, the political scene in the Fes-Meknes region is experiencing unusual activity from a number of elected officials who had disappeared from view for years, before the winds of the elections brought them back to the forefront. After a long period of silence and stagnation, some political figures have reappeared with a remarkable enthusiasm, in an attempt to regain what remains of the trust of the population.
Local sources within the region confirm that a number of these elected officials, who "the sun hit them" as some sarcastically comment, have begun to intensify field meetings and activate their accounts on social media, in addition to making surprise visits to neighborhoods and areas they had not visited since the end of the previous election campaign. This late move has reopened the debate within the Fes-Meknes region about the concept of political responsibility, and the role of the elected official in following up on public affairs throughout the period of mandate, and not just when the moment of electoral decision approaches. While citizens see this "late awakening" as nothing more than an attempt to woo voters, others emphasize that popular awareness within the region has developed significantly, and has become capable of distinguishing between those who work regularly and those who wake up every five years. And with the rise in the political atmosphere in the Fes-Meknes region, it seems that the upcoming electoral battle will not only be about programs, but also about regaining trust in political work, and restoring the role of the elected official as a permanent actor in serving the public interest, not just a seasonal guest who returns with the approach of the ballot boxes.
