The Moroccan authorities dismantled a network that was organizing irregular crossings to occupied Ceuta using paragliding, in one of the most innovative migration methods in recent months.
According to available data, the dismantling of the network came after the arrest of five people suspected of being involved in organizing these flights from the Belyounech area, where "air flights" were prepared, which are carried out without any safety conditions, posing a direct threat to the lives of the participants. The Public Prosecution in Tetouan ordered the prosecution of one of the accused in pre-trial detention, on suspicion of leading operations to supply migrants with paragliders and sell them to them, in addition to coordinating the stages of preparation for crossing. While four others were released on temporary parole, with dates set for hearings to consider the details of the case. Elements of the Royal Gendarmerie in Fnideq were able to arrest the suspects and seize the equipment used in these operations, after accurate information led to the implementation of a field intervention that resulted in the arrest of individuals who were preparing for an air trip under the supervision of smuggling networks. Security and intelligence authorities also reinforced patrols within the forested areas surrounding the "Dead Woman" area, and tightened surveillance on the paths leading to it, as part of efforts to prevent any attempt to use paragliding to cross the border to occupied Ceuta.
