American media reported yesterday, Wednesday, that the Afghan citizen suspected of carrying out the shooting that targeted two National Guard members in Washington, had previously worked with US forces in Afghanistan before being transferred to the United States.
Fox News reported that the 29-year-old suspect had collaborated with the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the US military and other government entities inside Afghanistan, before arriving in the United States in September 2021, following the withdrawal of US forces from the country in August of the same year. The network quoted former CIA director John Ratcliffe as saying that the suspect worked with US forces in the city of Kandahar, southern Afghanistan, which was considered one of its most important military bases. Ratcliffe explained that his transfer to the United States at that time came based on his previous work with US government institutions, including the CIA, within a partner force in Kandahar. The shooting incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the center of Washington, where hundreds of reserve elements have been deployed since last August to carry out foot patrols at the request of US President Donald Trump, despite the objections of the local Democratic authorities. Trump condemned the attack, describing it as a "terrorist act," confirming that two National Guard members were seriously injured, and vowing to tighten his immigration policies.
