HIBAPRESS – Follow-up
The death toll from the fire that broke out in a residential complex in Hong Kong on Wednesday has risen to 128, while dozens are still missing, according to the head of the security apparatus, Chris Tang, on Friday, two days after the worst fire the city has witnessed in decades.
For his part, the head of the Hong Kong Fire Department, Andy Yong, revealed that a team of experts was sent to the damaged buildings after multiple reports indicated that the alarm systems did not work when the fire broke out. Yong added to the journalists: “We found that the alarm systems in the eight buildings were not working correctly.”
This incident is one of the most tragic fires in the modern history of Hong Kong, which raised great concerns about the safety of buildings and alarm systems in the city.
