Abdelilah Benkirane, the Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party, highlighted during a communication meeting in the Oriental region on Sunday the role of Fouad Ali El Himma in Moroccan politics.
Benkirane explained that El Himma was previously leading a new political current and appeared in the media directing direct messages to Islamists, stating that "these are the margins of society," which posed a challenge to the Justice and Development Party at that stage. Benkirane added sarcastically: "Perhaps El Himma is currently running politics from behind a veil… God knows… If we are well established and if he returns to politics again, he will find us facing him." Benkirane pointed out that this role of El Himma came in the context of a political confrontation that included gathering the opposition against his party, stressing that the Justice and Development Party dealt with the situation with balance and calm, based on his long experience in political work and the moderate Islamist party.
