HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
The HIBAPRESS newspaper has received a number of complaints indicating that the Casablanca Events Company is delaying the payment of financial dues to several small contractors, which has caused dissatisfaction among some professionals in the sector, especially in light of the continuous official calls to support small and medium-sized enterprises and enhance their role in economic development.
According to information received by the newspaper, the contractor in question carried out a number of works for the aforementioned company within the framework of a legal contract, but it was surprised, according to its statements, by a delay in the payment of its dues, despite completing all the agreed-upon obligations. The owner of the small contractor explained that this delay caused him financial losses and negatively affected the stability of a number of his workers and the progress of his professional activity, indicating that he had followed the available administrative procedures without reaching, as of this writing, a final settlement of the file. Observers believe that such cases raise questions about the extent to which some companies adhere to the principles of good governance, especially with regard to their contractual relations with small and emerging contractors. A number of actors in the field have called for the intervention of the competent authorities in order to consider these complaints and ensure respect for the laws in force, in a way that guarantees the protection of the rights of all parties. The HIBAPRESS newspaper has, on more than one occasion, tried to contact the director of the Events company, Mohamed El Jwahiri, in order to get his point of view on the subject, but he did not respond to the newspaper's correspondence as of the writing of these lines.
