HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Zakia Driouch, Secretary of State in charge of Fisheries, affirmed that the fisheries infrastructure in Morocco has witnessed a qualitative leap in recent years thanks to the royal directives that laid the foundations for the development of the sector.
Driouch explained that the "Halieutis" strategy, which King Mohammed VI launched in 2009, formed a reference framework for achieving a comprehensive transformation in the fisheries system, whether at the level of valuing resources or modernizing management methods and increasing the competitiveness of ports and unloading centers. During her intervention in the House of Representatives, Driouch highlighted that work was done to consolidate the sector's gains and address the constraints that limited its effectiveness through a set of structured measures. These measures included encouraging scientific research related to marine resources, preparing development plans to ensure sustainable exploitation, as well as strengthening monitoring devices and adopting modern technological tools to reduce illegal fishing and improve the tracking of marine activities. The government official added that the development of infrastructure was one of the most important axes of this approach, through the construction and equipping of new ports, the modernization of reception and storage facilities, and the improvement of working and safety conditions for fishing professionals. Driouch confirmed that these efforts contributed to increasing the sector's profitability and enhancing its investment attractiveness, which enabled Morocco to achieve an advanced position in the field of fisheries at the regional and international levels.
