HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
Illegal works inside a commercial premises (garage) in the Mimalal neighborhood of the city of Midelt almost turned into an urban disaster threatening the safety of dozens of families, were it not for the intervention and vigilance of the residents of the concerned building, who moved at the appropriate time after recording dangerous indicators.
The details of the incident date back to November 13, 2025, when a person rented a garage on the ground floor of a residential building and began to carry out works presented as ordinary repairs. However, loud noises resulting from the use of heavy equipment, such as the "Hilti" and "Massa" machines, along with unusual vibrations, raised the concerns of the residents and prompted them to inquire and investigate. According to data collected by the residents, it became clear that the works went far beyond the concept of simple repairs, as they included the removal of basic internal walls and a number of brick pillars, without respecting the minimum safety conditions or obtaining the necessary legal permits. It was also later discovered that the garage had been divided into three internal levels (basements) and connected to the sewers, in flagrant violation of the laws in force in the field of construction and building. Approximately 24 families live above this garage, who found themselves directly threatened as a result of these random modifications that weakened the load-bearing structure of the building, which made the situation foreboding serious consequences. A number of residents confirmed that their immediate intervention and their keenness to raise the alarm, along with divine care, prevented the repetition of tragic scenarios similar to what some neighborhoods recently witnessed, especially the Al-Masira neighborhood in Bensouda in the city of Fez, which is still present in the minds. The residents of the Mimalal neighborhood are demanding that the competent authorities open an urgent investigation into these violations, and take the necessary legal measures against those involved, while tightening control over the works inside residential premises, to protect the lives of citizens and ensure respect for urban planning laws and the safety of buildings. The question remains: where is the role of the concerned parties at the time of the reform?
