The Souk Ahras court in Algeria ordered the temporary detention of nine people following their violation of the legal conditions for benefiting from the travel grant.
According to a statement from the public prosecutor, four people were apprehended by border guards while attempting to cross the border from a neighboring country illegally outside the official crossing, after benefiting from the travel grant of 750 euros. Each of them was found to be in possession of a similar amount in hard currency.
In a related context, five other individuals were arrested attempting to leave the national territory illegally after entering legally, having previously benefited from the same travel grant, which contradicts the specific conditions for disbursing the grant.
The preliminary investigation supervised by the regional gendarmerie brigade in El Hadada revealed that the suspects were presented to the public prosecution on December 11, 2025, and were charged with illegal entry and exit from the national territory, in addition to violating the laws related to the disbursement of grants and the movement of funds.
Upon appearing before the court, the nine were placed in temporary detention, and the case was adjourned to a session on December 18, 2025.
The public prosecutor at the Tebessa court also announced the arrest of another person while attempting to enter the country illegally after benefiting from the same travel grant, where he was also placed in temporary detention with the postponement of the consideration of his case.
Earlier, the Bank of Algeria emphasized that Directive No. 05-2025 regarding the right to foreign travel exchange prohibits any illegal transfer or use of the travel grant amount, stressing that violators are subject to judicial accountability, and that the amount allocated for travel is a personal right that cannot be handed over to a third party.
