HIBAPRESS – Safi
The city of Safi witnessed, yesterday evening, Sunday, exceptional floods resulting from heavy thunderstorms, which resulted in human and material losses where the death toll reached 37, and the tragedy of the city was embodied in direct testimonies from the survivors who experienced moments of terror amid the raging floods.
In his speech to the "HIBAPRESS" website, one of the survivors recounted how the water level rose rapidly inside shops and streets, saying that he tried to survive in the midst of the raging waves, trying to hold on to anything that would provide him with safety, until he reached the market where he was able to escape with the help of citizens who helped him get out to a safe place.
The survivor added that the floods swept away everything in front of him, including the contents of the shops, stressing that the moments were very difficult, as he felt as if he was "between life and death", but he survived thanks to the grace of God and the solidarity of the people around him. He expressed his sadness at the loss of some lives, calling on God to have mercy on the victims and alleviate the suffering of the bereaved families.
Other testimonies indicate that the speed of the floods and the rise in water levels were unexpected, which made rescue operations difficult, and they added that the intervention of some citizens and their assistance was the difference between life and death. They also expressed their gratitude to the institutions and people who provided first aid and support to the survivors.
The floods have caused significant material losses, as the streets were flooded and damage was caused to homes and shops, while the search for the missing continues, amid intensive efforts by the local authorities and civil protection to ensure the safety of the population and help them overcome the effects of this disaster.
These human testimonies form a window for understanding the magnitude of the disaster in Safi, and shed light on the courage and solidarity shown by citizens during difficult hours filled with terror and danger, confirming the need to promote a culture of safety and dealing with natural disasters.
