In an important step towards strengthening the digital transformation in the Kingdom, a modern submarine cable connecting the Moroccan coasts with the French port of Marseille was inaugurated today, Tuesday, December 16, in the commune of Arkmane, Nador province. This project comes at a time when the Kingdom is witnessing a noticeable acceleration in the development of the communications sector, and it is among the main axes of its ambitious digital strategy.
This submarine cable is considered a strategic investment that enhances Morocco's digital infrastructure and establishes its position as a digital gateway between the African and European continents. The project aims to meet the increasing demand for high-speed international connectivity and comes at a time when Morocco is witnessing remarkable development in the field of digital technology. Through this cooperation between Orange and Inwi, the new cable aims to strengthen the national fiber optic network and support fifth-generation (5G) technologies, which will significantly improve the speed and quality of communication and enable the provision of advanced digital services, thus meeting the needs of individuals and companies alike. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Governor of Nador Province, Jamal Chaarani, and the head of the Arkmane commune, El Bakay Bourjel, in addition to a number of officials and actors in the communications sector. This event also reflects Morocco's determination to lay the foundations for a strong digital future, enhance its technological capabilities, and strengthen its leading position in the region. The new submarine cable represents a valuable addition to the national digital system, as it will contribute to accelerating the flow of data between Morocco and Europe, and enhance the Kingdom's connection with the rest of the world. This project is expected to play a pivotal role in attracting digital investments and supporting technological innovation, which will contribute to building a prosperous and sustainable digital economy.
