Two police officers opened fire on a car after the driver refused to comply while attempting to stop him on Wednesday evening, in the Bon-de-Lass district of Toulon, in the Var region, which led to a serious injury to a woman who was on board the vehicle and was quickly transferred to the hospital for surgery.
The "bfmtv" website reported that the shooting came after the car ran over a police officer, noting that the driver managed to escape before the car was found on a dead-end road about 500 meters away, while the driver disappeared while the injured woman was found in the front seat next to the driver. The source explained that the authorities arrested a man suspected of being the driver of the car near the injured woman's home. He was drunk and placed under custody on charges including refusing to comply, failing to assist a person in danger, stealing the vehicle from a family member, and attempting to kill a police officer while trying to escape. "bfmtv" pointed out that two investigations were opened into the incident, one with the Organized Crime Division specialized in the Var region, and the other with "IGPN," a unit known as the "police of the police," to investigate the use of fire power by people entrusted with public authority, where the two police officers were placed under custody on Wednesday evening to question them about the circumstances of using their weapons.
