In an important meeting held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in the capital Rabat, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Marchica Lake Site Development Agency, which was dedicated to evaluating the progress of the strategic royal project "Marchica" and reviewing future plans to achieve sustainable development in the region.
This meeting comes at a critical time when officials are seeking to give a new dynamic to the Marchica project, which was launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, in 2008 with the aim of transforming Marchica Lake into a global tourist destination, while strengthening the position of the Nador region as a competitive economic hub in the Mediterranean. Also during the meeting, the outcome of the first phase of the program, which ran between 2014 and 2020, was reviewed, with a focus on developing a new strategic plan that focuses on accelerating the implementation of major infrastructure projects and expanding the horizons of private investment, with the aim of achieving sustainable development characterized by social and economic sustainability. According to the Board of Directors, it was approved to allocate a financial envelope of 900 million dirhams for the period 2026-2027, with joint funding from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This program aims to implement projects that are influential in the attractiveness of the region, with a focus on protecting the environment and promoting the social and economic integration of local residents. In the context of reviewing the results of the work done, the restructuring projects that the agency carried out during the past two years were praised, with emphasis on the importance of continuing efforts to improve governance and transparency in the management of future projects. The Council recommended continuing these efforts until 2026, with a focus on modernizing the institutional strategies of the agency. As for the subsidiary "Marchica Med", the Council pointed to the great progress made in settling the company's financial accounts and restructuring its resources, and the progress in implementing the medium-term plan 2025-2032 was also praised, which aims to enhance the development of the city of Atalion and attract more private investment. During the year 2025, tangible results were achieved, as the agency succeeded in attracting investors for three major real estate projects, with a total investment of about 1.4 billion dirhams, which paves the way for achieving the first positive financial result in 2026, a qualitative step that heralds a promising future for Marchica projects.
