The Venezuelan Vice President, Delcy Rodriguez, stated on Saturday that the government does not know the whereabouts of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, following the United States' announcement of their arrest and transfer outside the country.
Rodriguez said in a statement to official television that the Venezuelan authorities are demanding proof that proves that Maduro and his wife are still alive, considering that what happened constitutes a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of national sovereignty. This position comes after US President Donald Trump announced the implementation of a large-scale military strike against Venezuela, which he confirmed resulted in the arrest of Maduro and his wife and their aerial deportation, indicating that the operation was carried out in coordination with US law enforcement agencies, while vowing to reveal its details in a subsequent press conference. In the United States, the announcement sparked controversy within Congress, where Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego considered the US strikes illegal, describing what is happening as an unjustified war, while Republican Senator Mike Lee expressed his constitutional doubts, questioning the justifications for the use of force in the absence of a declaration of war or official authorization.
