HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zeriyouh
The Moroccan League for the Defense of Human Rights (Azghanghan branch) issued an urgent appeal to the officials of the Nador province regarding the tragic situation of children in a state of homelessness in the province. The appeal posed a painful question: "Is it conceivable that we see children in the prime of their lives sleeping on sidewalks and eating from garbage in our streets?"
The alarming phenomenon that has been observed in the field reveals a bitter reality experienced by many underage children in the province, who suffer from the absence of shelter and legal protection. The League also recorded the increase in dangerous phenomena such as drug use and behavioral deviation that threatens their safety and security in the streets. In the context of this painful reality, the League sent open letters to the Governor of the Nador province, the Attorney General of the King, and the Public Prosecutor, demanding rapid and urgent intervention. This move came after the League observed the absence of coordination between the institutions concerned with providing social care, which increases the suffering of these children and exacerbates the problem. The League stressed in its message the need to activate the "Regional Committee for the Protection of Childhood" immediately, and to provide shelters that protect these children from loss and exploitation. It affirmed that the constitution guarantees them the right to housing and a decent life, which must be translated into a tangible reality that requires immediate intervention. In conclusion, the Azghanghan branch of the League affirmed that the goal is not only diagnosis, but to provide realistic solutions that guarantee these children a decent life and a secure future, calling for cooperation between everyone to achieve this noble goal.
