Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch said that the “Cities without Slums” program, which cost the public treasury a total budget of around 45.7 billion dirhams, has contributed since its launch to improving the living conditions of more than 347,000 families, with a treatment rate reaching 75%.
Akhannouch said during his speech at the monthly question session in Parliament on Monday: “I take this opportunity to highlight the sustained efforts made by the government to achieve the expected effects of this royal program with social dimensions. We have accelerated the pace of improving housing conditions for about 44,000 families during this mandate.”
He confirmed that the annual rate of achievement had increased from 6,200 families targeted for the period 2018-2021 to more than 18,000 families per year over the last two years, approximately three times more, by particularly accelerating the pace of interventions in large urban areas such as Casablanca, Marrakech, Témara-Skhirat-Salé.
Akhannouch stressed that thanks to the intensification of interventions aimed at reducing the expansion of slums, the growth rate of this problem had fallen by -48% over the last two and a half years. The rate of increase went from 10,400 families per year between 2012 and 2021 to less than 6,500 families per year during the current mandate.
