As part of monitoring the status of environmental infrastructure and strengthening governance in the management of public facilities, the Governor of Al Hoceima Province, Mr. Fouad Haji, today, Tuesday, January 13th, paid an inspection visit to the wastewater treatment plant in Al Hoceima, which belongs to the Regional Multi-Service Company Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, to assess the operation of this vital facility and its role in protecting the environment and improving the quality of life in the city.

The Al Hoceima wastewater treatment plant is one of the essential environmental facilities in the province, where it operates using activated sludge technology. It was built in 1996 with a daily flow rate of 4,800 cubic meters per day. As part of the restoration and expansion project in 2011, the daily flow rate was increased to 9,600 cubic meters per day, with a pollutant load of approximately 3,800 kilograms of biological oxygen demand per day (BOD5), which enabled the plant to meet the needs of the city of Al Hoceima for wastewater treatment until the year 2025.

The plant's tasks are not limited to the primary treatment of wastewater only, but also include the treatment of sludge and odors, in addition to the tertiary treatment of treated water, which is reused in irrigating green spaces, in a step that falls within the approach of sustainable development and rationalizing water resources.

The inspection visit was attended by the regional director of the Regional Multi-Service Company in Al Hoceima Province, along with the director of the wastewater treatment plant and some of its staff, the mayor of Al Hoceima and his deputies, and the general director of services in the municipality. The occasion was an opportunity to provide detailed explanations to the Governor about the plant's tasks, its method of operation, and the technical and environmental challenges it faces, as well as the efforts made to ensure the continuity and quality of its services.

This visit comes within the framework of the regional authorities' keenness to follow up on projects with an environmental dimension, and to enhance coordination between the various stakeholders, in a way that ensures the protection of the natural environment of the city of Al Hoceima, the preservation of public health, and the support of the province's trends towards sustainable and balanced development.
