HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The public prosecutor at the Rabat Court of First Instance decided, Wednesday evening, to prosecute a group of Senegalese fans, along with a citizen holding Algerian nationality, in custody, against the backdrop of the events witnessed at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the capital Rabat after the final match of the African Cup of Nations between the Moroccan and Senegalese teams.
According to available data, the concerned individuals, numbering 19, were presented to the Public Prosecution after being referred by the judicial police this morning, after hearing them within the framework of the preliminary investigation, in order to determine the actions attributed to each of them and the legal classification of the charges against them.
The security services had arrested the Senegalese fans, along with the Algerian citizen, following events described as criminal, which erupted inside the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, during the Morocco-Senegal match that took place last Sunday night, which witnessed serious violations that necessitated the intervention of the security authorities.
After questioning the concerned individuals by the competent Public Prosecution, it was decided to prosecute them in custody, referring them to the Criminal Court of First Instance in Rabat, where the first sessions of their trial will be held today, Thursday, to consider what is attributed to them.
These follow-ups come within the framework of activating the legal provisions in force and addressing all actions that could prejudice public security or disrupt order within sports venues, especially during major football events.
