In a qualitative step that reflects a shift in African trade patterns, Ghana succeeded in 2025 in exporting shipments of mango fruit to Morocco via land transport, in the first operation of its kind between West and North Africa. The "My Joy Online" platform clarified that the exported quantity reached about 26 metric tons, confirming the success of the operation from a logistical standpoint.
The Ghanaian Minister of Trade, Agricultural Business and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, revealed that the trucks moved directly from Morocco to Ghana to acquire the mangoes before transporting them by land to the Moroccan market, in an unprecedented step at the continental level. This initiative is considered an indicator of the potential of land transport as a practical option to enhance African trade exchanges without going through ports. It also contributes to reducing export costs and accelerating the arrival of fresh agricultural products to the markets, in line with the continent's trends to enhance intra-trade. The platform considered that the choice of Morocco as a destination reflects the expansion of Ghana's network of trading partners and the growing demand for African products. It also opens the way for expanding Ghana's exports northwards, whether by increasing quantities or diversifying products, within the framework of a wider strategy to enhance the commercial presence and the mainstay of agricultural exports in the national economy.
