Abdel Latif El-Baz – Heba Press
A young Moroccan man was killed after drowning in the waters of the Galazzo River in the province of Taranto, in Puglia, southern Italy.
Heba Press sources reported that the young man, a Moroccan called “SS”, aged 24, had gone to the Galazzo River to swim with some of his friends, in light of the heatwave that Italy is experiencing, but he drowned. Immediately after the rescue and Italian authorities were informed of the incident, they moved to the scene and were able to recover with difficulty the body of the deceased.
The same sources explain that the team of divers, affiliated with the Civil Protection Services, managed to save with great difficulty the dead friend, aged about twenty, from certain death, due to the strong current of water and the high level of the river, before transporting him in critical condition to the local hospital to receive the necessary care.
The deceased and his friend enjoyed bathing in the Galazo River, before one of them drowned and the other escaped certain death.
The Public Prosecutor has given instructions to recover the victim’s body and examine it, before sending it to the morgue, with a view to carrying out a medical autopsy to determine the real cause of death, for the benefit of a preliminary investigation opened into the accident.
It is worth noting that the “curse” of drownings in Italian rivers has claimed the lives of dozens of Moroccan immigrants in recent years, which observers attribute to the ignorance of most Moroccan immigrants about the nature of swimming in rivers or to the risk of their lives in some places where swimming is prohibited.
