The political bureau of the National Rally of Independents party held its meeting today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at its central headquarters in Rabat, chaired by Secretary-General Aziz Akhannouch, where it reviewed the current political, economic, and social situation, and discussed the organizational aspects of the party in preparation for the extraordinary national congress.
At the outset of its work, the political bureau expressed its pride in the great success achieved by the Kingdom in organizing the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations for football, praising the quality of the organization, the efficiency of the infrastructure, the ease of movement, and the security system, in addition to the wide public turnout. It also commended the wise stance of His Majesty the King in the face of attempts to undermine the credibility of the Kingdom, affirming the Kingdom's strong support for a united and prosperous Africa, based on cooperation, solidarity, and the sharing of expertise. On the governmental level, the political bureau praised the government's great work in implementing the 2025 finance law, considering that this reflects the effectiveness of the government's economic and financial choices, and its manifestation in the improvement of growth indicators, the strengthening of hard currency reserves, and the increase in tax revenues, which enabled fulfilling social obligations and supporting the purchasing power of citizens. The office also affirmed the party's full support for the government's policies in managing public finances and controlling the deficit and reducing debt, which enhances confidence in the national economy and confirms its strength and attractiveness. On the organizational side, the political bureau listened to a presentation by Rachid Talbi El Alami, the head of the preparatory committee for the extraordinary national congress, on the progress of the preparation process, which was characterized by wide participation and a spirit of serious work to ensure the good organization of the conference. After the end of the period for submitting nominations for the party presidency, the political bureau received the nomination of Mohamed Chouki, and decided to refer it to the extraordinary conference scheduled to be held in El Jadida on February 7, 2026.
