The American financial authorities announced the bankruptcy of Metropolitan Capital Bank & Trust, making it the first bank to declare bankruptcy in the United States during the year 2026, after the value of its customers' deposits reached approximately $212 million at the time of closure.
According to US laws, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) intervened to take over the process and guarantee the depositors' funds up to $250,000 per insured account, with the insured deposits being transferred to another bank to ensure the continuation of banking services without interruption.
This bankruptcy comes at a time when the American banking sector is facing challenges related to economic fluctuations and rising interest rates, but specialists confirm that the impact of this case remains limited due to the small size of the bank compared to major financial institutions.
