HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
An education union has requested the Ministry of National Education to clarify the legal framework regulating school hours during the month of Ramadan, while emphasizing the need to respect the weekend holiday as stipulated in a decree that defines working days and times in public administrations.
The union explained that the applicable decree stipulates that working days extend from Monday to Friday, considering that this provision should include all state employees, including female and male teachers, especially during Ramadan hours. The union body noted disparities in the application of this legal provision, where employees of central and regional administrations benefit from a Saturday holiday, while teachers continue to work on this day, which it considered a violation of the principle of equal treatment within the public service. The union called on the ministry to review the expected memorandum regarding Ramadan hours, to ensure greater legal clarity, fairness for the teaching staff, and achieve a balance between work requirements and the conditions of the holy month.
