The American newspaper "New York Times" reported on Friday that "Pentagon" officials are working on moving more air defense batteries to the region to protect American bases, in anticipation of any strike on Iran.
The newspaper quoted American officials as saying that the American forces in the region "may be at much greater risk if the United States is the one to start this round of strikes against Iran." The newspaper added that "hundreds of soldiers have been transferred from Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, and there were also evacuations at the American base complex in Bahrain." The American aircraft carrier "Gerald Ford," the largest in the world, was seen entering the Mediterranean Sea on Friday, amid the intensification of military deployment by order of US President Donald Trump, which portends the possibility of launching a strike on Iran. Trump announced on Friday that he is "studying" directing a limited strike on Iran if the talks between Washington and Tehran do not result in an agreement on its nuclear program. Trump added, in response to a question from a journalist about whether he was seriously considering the option of military action if negotiations faltered, "The most I can say is that I am studying this."
