HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyaoui
The Regional Vigilance Committee, under the supervision of the Governor of Taounate Province, continues to implement a series of urgent field interventions, in the framework of accompanying the situation resulting from the heavy rainfall that the province witnessed during the recent period, which caused varying damages to the infrastructure, especially the road network and related facilities.
By exploiting the improved climatic conditions, the various intervening departments have focused on breaking the isolation of a number of douars and opening vital road axes, ensuring the movement of citizens and enabling them to access basic services and ensuring the supply of essential materials.
These interventions included, in particular, the removal of soil resulting from soil erosion on several road sections, including the entrance to the commune of Oulad Daoud on national road No. 8 linking Fez and Taounate, as well as the repair of bridges to drain rainwater and ensure the smooth flow of traffic, in addition to repairing damaged electrical poles to ensure the continuity of the electricity supply to a number of rural communes.
Also, a group of road tracks leading to douars belonging to the circles of Tissa, Taounate, Ghafsai, and the village of Ba Mohamed were rehabilitated and repaired, including paving work, treatment of deteriorated sections, cleaning of water channels, and reopening of roads cut off due to the accumulation of mud and soil erosion, in addition to repairing technical facilities and bridges damaged by the force of the floods.
In a preliminary count, the number of interventions by the Regional Vigilance Committee, up to February 19, 2026, totaled 1540 interventions, distributed between operations to break isolation and repair road axes, and the relief of affected families, as well as the repair of breakdowns that affected drinking water, electricity and liquid sanitation networks, where 381 families benefited from support and assistance, including 1549 individuals.
These operations were carried out thanks to the comprehensive mobilization and coordination of efforts between the local authorities and the security services, including national security, Royal Gendarmerie, auxiliary forces and civil protection, as well as the equipment, transport and logistics departments, the regional multi-service company Fez Meknes, the territorial communities and the “Cooperation” group of communities, with the harnessing of important mechanisms and logistics to enhance the speed and efficiency of the intervention.
In the context of closely monitoring the situation, the governor of the province made field visits during the past week to a number of affected areas, including the city of Tissa and some road axes and dams, to assess the extent of the damage, follow up on the interventions and provide the necessary support to the affected population.
These movements fall within the framework of implementing the regional action plan for vigilance, and implementing the high royal directives of King Mohammed VI, as well as the circular of the Ministry of Interior regarding the activation of the national plan to reduce the effects of climate fluctuations and floods.
It is worth noting that most of the families affected by the rainfall have returned to their homes after the improvement of weather conditions, and have resumed their daily activities in normal conditions, while the various departments remain in a state of continuous mobilization in anticipation of any developments, and to ensure the safe and sound movement of the province's population.
