The Criminal Appeals Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Al Hoceima recently upheld the initial judgments issued against ten defendants in connection with the events that took place in the city of Imzouren, where it ruled to convict those concerned of the acts attributed to them and sentenced each of them to two years in prison, after discussing the various defenses of the defense team and the pleadings of the Public Prosecution.
The Criminal Court of First Instance had considered a file in which ten people were being prosecuted in custody, against the backdrop of the protests that the city witnessed during the past period. The accused were charged with a group of charges that the Public Prosecution described as serious, including intentionally setting fire to vehicles and movable property, placing obstacles on the public road with the aim of obstructing traffic, and the collective destruction of property allocated for public benefit, in addition to participating in acts of violence and insulting public officials while performing their duties, and contributing to an armed gathering during the night hours. After studying the file and discussing all its details, the court upheld the initial ruling, with the convicted persons bearing the expenses in solidarity. It also responded to the civil claims of the victims and ruled that they pay civil compensation of 50,000 dirhams for the benefit of the General Directorate of National Security, as an affected party, in solidarity among themselves.
