British Defense Secretary John Healey announced the launch of two missiles towards Cyprus, where British forces, including thousands of soldiers, are deployed, in a new development reflecting the expansion of the war between Iran and Israel and the intertwined roles of international powers in it.
The minister explained that the two missiles targeted Cypriot territories that host British military bases, without revealing immediate details regarding the extent of the damage or the mechanisms for countering the attack. He also pointed to the fall of Iranian missiles and drones a few hundred meters from British soldiers inside a military base in Bahrain, reflecting the targeting circle's approach to the deployment sites of Western forces in the region. This development highlights the shift of the confrontation from its direct scope between Iran and Israel to the vicinity of the deployment of American and British forces in the eastern Mediterranean and the Gulf region. These developments come amid continuous escalation since Saturday morning, as Israel and the United States are carrying out military operations against Iran, while Tehran is responding by bombing targets inside Israel and targeting military bases in the region. The proximity of the attacks to the deployment sites of British forces is a notable turning point in the course of the war, amid growing fears of the direct involvement of international parties, which may lead to the expansion of the scope of the confrontation regionally and increase its complexity.
