Moscow announced on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin presented his American counterpart Donald Trump with proposals to resolve the Iran crisis.
Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesman, said that Moscow "will follow how the process of reaching an agreement goes." Peskov said the Kremlin would not reveal details of Putin's proposals on Iran. But the spokesman confirmed that the conversation between Putin and Trump about the situation around Iran does not yet indicate that the Russian President has become a mediator in the settlement efforts. He said: "Russia will be happy to help ease tensions in the Middle East, and it is ready for that, but it is necessary to coordinate with many parties in this regard." Peskov added that "Putin and Trump did not discuss in detail lifting restrictions on Russian oil exports during their last conversation, but the negative consequences of these restrictions are known to everyone." He also refused to comment on reports regarding the leakage of intelligence information to Iran, in light of the war waged by the United States and Israel against it. American President Donald Trump said in a press conference on Monday: "I had a very good phone call with Putin," adding that the Russian President wanted to extend a helping hand regarding Iran. He continued: "I told him: You can be more useful if you end the war between Ukraine and Russia. That would be more beneficial." The call came hours after statements by Putin in which he said that the American-Israeli war on Iran had caused a global energy crisis, warning that oil production, which depends on transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, could soon stop.
