A number of cancer patients of various types are suffering from increasing difficulties due to delays in recovering the costs of treatment and medication from the National Fund for Social Welfare Organizations “CNOP”, which burdens the patients and their families enrolled in this health system.
The waiting period for recovering the costs of medications and treatments for cancer, which in some cases can reach about 20,000 dirhams, extends for more than two months, which increases the suffering of patients and puts them in difficult financial challenges. In this context, the demands of a number of those affected are rising for the need for the Minister of Health and Social Protection to intervene to take urgent measures to speed up the procedure for compensating the costs of treatment and medications related to this disease, so that patients can obtain them and continue treatment without obstacles. Identical data indicate that this delay in paying compensation by "CNOP" puts the subscribers in a difficult financial situation, and threatens the social stability of a number of families, and may even push some patients to stop following up on radiation treatment or purchasing the necessary medications because of their high cost. This situation intensifies considering that most of those affected belong to the category of small and medium-sized employees in administrations and public institutions, who find themselves facing high treatment expenses that exceed their financial capacity, pending the payment of compensation that may be delayed for long weeks.
