Amid the ongoing discussion about onion prices in national markets, a source from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests stated that green onions (vegetable) are currently available in significant quantities, and are the most present offering during this period, at reasonable prices ranging between 6 and 7 dirhams per kilogram, making it an affordable option for consumers.
The source explained that this abundance coincides with the peak of the harvest and marketing phase, which contributes to strengthening market supply and ensuring a balance of supply, with the expectation that this trend will continue in the coming weeks, supporting the gradual stabilization of prices.
In contrast, the source indicated that the increase recorded in the prices of dry onions is mainly related to the end of its season, as the remaining quantities from the summer stock are currently being marketed, which leads to a gradual decline in supply and a rise in prices, which is a normal occurrence that is repeated at this time of year.
In a message of reassurance to the public, the source confirmed that the winter onion crops are proceeding according to the usual program, where the cultivated area of green onions at the national level reached about 13 thousand hectares, with an expected production of around 355 thousand tons, which will ensure the regular supply of the national market and contribute to price stability.
It is worth mentioning that the prices of dry onions currently range, according to the regions, between 12 and 14 dirhams per kilogram, in the context of the end of its season and relying on the remainder of the summer stock.
