HIBAPRESS
The Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, the official government spokesperson, Mostafa Baitas, confirmed today in Rabat that the funding support for electoral campaigns allocated to enhance the representation of women, youth, Moroccans residing abroad, and people with disabilities will be greater than the support granted for each seat in local constituencies.
Mr. Baitas explained, during a press conference following the weekly meeting of the Government Council, that the amount of support directed to the categories of women, youth under 35 years of age of both genders, Moroccans residing abroad, and people with disabilities, is higher compared to the support given for each seat in local constituencies. This is to strengthen the presence of these groups in the political scene, especially within the House of Representatives. He highlighted that allocating a larger amount of support to these groups aims to encourage parties to nominate them more in advanced positions to enhance their presence within the legislative institution. The Minister also confirmed that this support will also include women who do not belong to the mentioned categories when they run in local constituencies. Mr. Baitas explained that the draft decree related to the state's contribution to funding electoral campaigns carried out by political parties participating in the general elections to elect members of the House of Representatives, which the government approved today, comes to determine the amount of the lump-sum share of public support that everyone benefits from, then control how the second installment of this contribution is distributed, and determine the value and how to disburse an advance in favor of political parties. Regarding the disbursement of an advance of part of the support, the Minister revealed that it will be within certain limits, with the adoption of the principle of proportionality of this support with the annual support related to the management of political parties. As for the parties that have not previously benefited from public support, Mr. Baitas explained that the concerned ministry will adopt the last public support that these parties benefited from to be commensurate with the support allocated to the elections.
