HIBAPRESS-Agadir
The city of Agadir is heading towards a new phase in reforming the public transport system, after the Agadir Grand Cooperation Institution announced the launch of a new international tender for the management of the sector, in a step that aims to overcome the failure of the previous attempt and establish a more effective and sustainable model.
This project concerns the management of urban and inter-communal transport services, including traditional buses and the Bus High-Quality System (BHNS), which is expected to represent a qualitative leap in the ways of transportation within the urban area, by improving the speed and quality of the service.
This announcement comes after a comprehensive review of the specifications, supervised by experts and technicians, where important amendments were introduced that aimed to simplify the conditions and ease the restrictions that limited the acceptance of companies, while benefiting from the experiences of leading Moroccan cities such as Tangier and Marrakech in the field of transport management.
According to the available data, the expected contract will extend for ten years, which gives investors the opportunity to inject significant investments in modernizing the fleet and strengthening the infrastructure, in line with the rapid urban expansion that Agadir and its suburbs are witnessing.
The envelopes for this request are expected to be opened during the middle of next May, and the process will go through precise selection stages that include technical and financial evaluation, before reaching the final assignment stage, in preparation for the launch of the service in its new form by the end of September 2026.
This workshop is not limited to addressing the current transport constraints, but rather seeks to establish a modern and smart transport system, capable of connecting the different districts of Greater Agadir smoothly, which enhances the city's attractiveness and improves the quality of urban life.
