Today, Saturday, on the beach of Sidi Abed, in the province of El Jadida, the “Blue Flag” was hoisted for the fourth consecutive time, awarded by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment and the International Foundation for Environmental Education.
The “Blue Flag” badge was hoisted on the beach of Sidi Abed, during a ceremony attended by the president of the Collective Council of Sidi Abed, Mohamed Safari, the director of institutional relations of the Cherifian phosphate complex of Jorf Lasfar, Mahdi Al -Dakhni, and the heads of external services and civil society activists, in recognition of the efforts made by the Land group, local authorities and several partners to keep this beach clean.
This beach has been awarded the “Blue Flag”, which is part of the national “Clean Beaches” program, for its compliance with standards of bathing water quality, information, awareness, environmental education, hygiene and safety, and preparation and management.
Moreover, the director of the beach, Said Zougi, said in a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press that the beach of Sidi Abed, which is one of the most important beaches in the province of El Jadida, received the Blue Flag for the fourth consecutive year, due to its commitment to the standards set by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection and community associations, particularly those related to the quality of bathing water, information and awareness, environmental education, health, safety, development and management.
Mr. Zoghi added that the Collective Council of Sidi Abed, alongside all its partners, is keen to continually mobilize for the good management of beach facilities, through strict compliance with the standards set by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, in particular the conditions of cleanliness, prevention, maintenance, equipment, safety, or even revitalization and environmental awareness.
For his part, Rachid Al-Taber, head of the “Clean Beaches” program in the province of El Jadida at the Cherif Phosphate Company, confirmed that the rehabilitation of the beach and the creation of programs to revitalize it are the subject of a partnership agreement that brings together the complex, the Collective Council of Sidi Abed, the Prefecture of the Province of El Jadida and the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, with the aim of ensuring conditions of cleanliness and safety and summer activation.
He added that this institution provided basic equipment in accordance with the regulatory schedule imposed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, with the aim of creating awareness-raising activities on the importance of preserving the environment, signage and the safety of vacationers, in addition to entertaining workshops for vacationers and beach visitors.
The “Blue Flag” symbol is an international reference in terms of the quality of coastal sites, issued by the International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to distinguish coastal sites meeting quality and safety standards.
Obtaining this banner requires preparing the proposed site in compliance with a certain number of standards, particularly in terms of cleanliness and safety, as well as awareness of sustainable development and sporting, cultural and artistic revitalization.
The renewal of this mark depends on the preservation and continuous improvement of the acquisitions based on an annual assessment by the International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) of the state of the beneficiary beaches.
The international “Blue Flag” will be hoisted with 27 beaches and four entertainment ports, and for the first time in Morocco, on a mountain lake, by summer 2024.
