HIBAPRESS – Rabat

The administrative committee of the National Union of Higher Education has once again raised the alarm regarding the situation in the sector, warning of increasing tension in light of what it described as the delayed implementation of the outcomes of the sectoral dialogue and the failure to adhere to the deadlines set for addressing a number of pending files.

The union, in a statement issued after its meeting in Rabat, affirmed its adherence to its positions rejecting the contents of the law regulating higher education, considering that the government bears full responsibility for any repercussions that may result from it, especially those related to undermining the gains of public universities and the principles of independence and equal opportunities. The union body noted that the problem does not lie in the principle of dialogue, but rather in the weak implementation of its outcomes on the ground, calling for the adoption of an approach based on concrete results instead of what it considered a "logic of procrastination." It stressed the need to expedite the settlement of pending promotion files and the issuance of the relevant regulatory texts, in addition to addressing issues of seniority and compensation, in a manner that ensures fairness for research professors. The union also expressed its dissatisfaction with the continued lack of response from the Ministry of National Education to the demands of the professors working in training centers, holding it responsible for deepening the tension, and demanding the opening of a serious dialogue that leads to fair solutions. In the same context, it called for the integration of higher education training centers within the university, and the settlement of the status of research professors in nursing institutions, in a manner that ensures their full integration into the university system. The administrative committee hinted at the possibility of taking protest steps during the next phase, in the event of the continued delay in implementing the commitments, stressing that it will remain in a state of mobilization to defend the rights of university workers and preserve the dignity of the research professor.
