Various security services and local authorities continue, for the third consecutive day, to carry out intensive field operations in the forests and rugged mountainous areas surrounding the city of Fnideq, as part of efforts to combat irregular migration at the level of the municipalities of Belyounech and Beni Mazala.
Units from the Royal Gendarmerie, National Security, and Auxiliary Forces are participating in these operations, under the direct supervision of local authorities. Security presence has been enhanced at a number of points suspected of being used as temporary shelters by irregular migrants. According to local sources and identical testimonies, these interventions included extensive and thorough combing campaigns that targeted difficult-to-access mountainous areas, including Mount Musa, Mount Fahis, and the Beni Mazala forest, where movements of groups of migrants from sub-Saharan African countries are being monitored. These proactive operations resulted in the dismantling of a number of makeshift camps and tents that were used as accommodation centers, within the framework of an approach aimed at reducing the concentration of migrants in these forest spaces and drying up the sources of this phenomenon. The interventions also enabled the arrest of more than 800 irregular migrants, including people who showed resistance and violence towards public forces, by throwing stones at them and disobeying orders, before they were subjected to the legal procedures in force under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution. In the same context, local figures expressed their satisfaction with these security interventions, praising the efforts made by the various concerned agencies, for their role in enhancing the sense of security and reducing the repercussions of irregular presence in some areas close to residential gatherings and forest areas.
