A state of widespread ambiguity has raised many questions about the death of Egyptian doctor Diaa El-Awadi in the United Arab Emirates, amid differing accounts and the continuation of official investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed the incident closely, confirming that it had received an official notification from the Dubai Police stating the death of the doctor inside a hotel in the Emirate, indicating that the Egyptian Consulate in Dubai had begun following up on the procedures in coordination with the competent Emirati authorities, with the aim of finding out the truth of what happened and speeding up the procedures for transferring the body to Cairo. The late doctor's lawyer, Mustafa Majid, explained that it is still not possible to ascertain whether there is a criminal suspicion in the absence of conclusive evidence so far, but the deceased's family favors the hypothesis of a criminal incident, especially with what it described as "mysterious disappearance" that preceded the announcement of the death by several days, pending the results of the official investigations. The case witnessed a wide interaction on social media platforms, after a sudden interruption in communication with the doctor during the past few days, in addition to the circulation of old clips of him in which he warned against relying on medicines in some treatments, which revived the controversy about his medical opinions and methods that had previously aroused criticism. The Egyptian Medical Syndicate followed up on the developments of the case despite its previous decision to dismiss the doctor from its membership, confirming that it is awaiting the results of the investigations to find out the real reasons for the death, especially after he was accused during the past months of publishing medical information that was considered in violation of scientific standards and promoting unapproved treatment methods.
