The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) called today, Monday, May 25th, on all road users to exercise the utmost caution and take all preventive measures to ensure road safety, in light of the expected heavy traffic on the various axes of the national road network, on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha for the year 1447 AH.
A statement from the agency stated that "Due to the increasing demand for public passenger transport between cities, as an essential service for the movement of citizens, the agency urges all passengers to adhere to the use of seat belts throughout the journey and to adhere to road safety regulations, especially the pre-booking of travel tickets and placing luggage in designated places for this purpose, while ensuring that boarding and alighting from the bus takes place from within the road stations." The agency also called on drivers of various types of vehicles, especially professional drivers of taxis, passenger transport buses, freight trucks, and tourist car drivers, to be responsible and respect traffic laws, with particular emphasis on adhering to the provisions of road safety and prevention. The agency stressed, before using the road, the need to subject vehicles to technical inspection and regular maintenance, and to ensure the safety of various devices, especially tires, lighting devices, brakes, springs, windshield wipers, etc.; and to take sufficient rest before driving, to avoid fatigue, which negatively affects concentration and the estimation of distances and the speed of decision-making. The agency also emphasized the need to pre-plan the travel route to avoid surprises and potential risks; organize luggage and secure it firmly, while not exceeding the permissible load, especially for freight transport vehicles and public passenger transport. While driving, the agency, the same source adds, called for adapting the speed to the weather conditions and road conditions and ensuring full compliance with traffic rules, especially on rough roads, bends, and slopes; respecting the legal safety distance inside and outside the urban area; and exercising caution while overtaking, and doubling attention during night driving. The agency also emphasized the need to ensure that children under the age of ten sit in the back seats, while adhering to the use of seat belts by all passengers, in the front and back seats alike, including users of public passenger transport buses; and avoiding sudden maneuvers, and respecting the rules of stopping and parking while avoiding driving in the form of close convoys. On the other hand, the agency called on users of two- and three-wheeled motorcycles, as they are among the groups most exposed to road hazards, to strictly adhere to road safety rules, especially by avoiding making illegal technical modifications to the motorcycle, while ensuring respect for the legal speed; and using a protective helmet that complies with road safety standards, and wearing it correctly by both the driver and the passenger. The agency also emphasized the need for regular monitoring of the mechanical condition of the motorcycle; driving in the lanes designated for motorcycles or sticking to the far right; and ensuring that the motorcycle user is clearly visible, especially when driving at night, by checking the condition of the lights and wearing light-colored or reflective clothing; and not exceeding the load and the number of passengers allowed on the motorcycle.
