With the start of the school year, the roles of the National Agency for Social Assistance are strengthened in supporting families benefiting from the direct social assistance system, by contributing to easing the burdens associated with children's schooling, within the framework of implementing the social protection project and strengthening support mechanisms directed towards targeted groups.
This support comes in the context of implementing the agency's action plan for the period between 2026 and 2028, after the year 2025 marked a foundational stage in managing the direct social assistance system, which aims to improve the living conditions of families and enhance their ability to cope with a number of social and economic burdens.
The start of the school year holds particular importance within this system, given the additional costs that families bear at the beginning of the academic season. The direct social assistance system supports beneficiary families through the back-to-school allowance, known as "Million Backpacks."
This allowance provides 200 dirhams for each primary or middle school student, and 300 dirhams for each student in preparatory secondary education, which contributes to alleviating a portion of the financial burdens associated with the back-to-school period.
The importance of this support is not limited to the financial aspect, as its benefit is linked to children's schooling, falling within a direction aimed at supporting families and motivating them to maintain their children's educational path, especially in regions where families face economic and social difficulties that may affect the continuity of schooling.
In this context, the National Agency for Social Assistance emerges as an institutional mechanism for managing and supporting the direct social assistance system, by transforming social policies into aid directed towards deserving groups, while expanding the scope of support beyond financial assistance to enhance social and economic integration.
The agency's presence during the back-to-school period reflects a trend towards making social assistance more closely linked to the daily needs of families, especially concerning children's schooling, making the system one of the adopted mechanisms for supporting families during periods of increased expenses, most notably at the beginning of the academic year.
