A Saudi medical and surgical team succeeded, on Thursday morning, in performing the separation surgery for the Moroccan conjoined twins "Saja and Duha," aged 13 months, at King Abdullah Specialized Children's Hospital in Riyadh.
The operation was carried out in implementation of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and the Crown Prince, Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman, within the Saudi Program for Conjoined Twins, which is performing its 73rd separation surgery in its history.
In this regard, the head of the medical and surgical team, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, explained that the twins arrived in Saudi Arabia on April 24, 2026, and underwent precise medical examinations and multiple evaluation meetings, which showed their adherence in the chest and abdominal areas, and their sharing of the heart, liver, and intestinal membranes.
The examinations also revealed a congenital problem in the larynx of one of the twins, which necessitated a medical endoscopy to treat it before the separation surgery.
It included 6 stages that took approximately 10 hours, with the participation of 23 consultants, specialists, nursing, and technical staff, from the specializations of anesthesia, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and supporting specialties.
