HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
In a scene reflecting the extent of the economic pressures faced by some families, a number of citizens have resorted to offering furniture and household items for sale, in an attempt to provide cash flow that enables them to face the costs of living and purchase the Eid sacrifice.
A number of "Joutiyat" (flea markets) have witnessed during the recent period theقبال (قبال: is an Arabic word and doesn't translate directly to a single English word. It describes a situation of increased demand or a gathering of people) of heads of households who are offering household equipment and used furniture for sale, at a time when citizens confirm that the rising cost of living and the increasing seasonal expenses are imposing difficult choices on a number of families.
This comes in light of the ongoing discussion about the purchasing power of Moroccans, especially with the approach of Eid al-Adha and the accompanying additional expenses, including the sacrifice, Eid supplies, and other family obligations.
Observers believe that these indicators reflect the size of the social and economic challenges facing some groups, amid calls to strengthen social support mechanisms and alleviate the burdens on low and middle-income families.
