The Court of First Instance in Midelt on Thursday evening sentenced Lahou El Marbouh, head of the stadium municipality in the province of Errachidia, to eight months in prison, in connection with the case related to the death of a woman inside a hotel unit in the city.
The events of the case date back to last September, when the woman died after being transferred in a critical health condition from a hotel in Midelt to the provincial hospital, which prompted the competent authorities to open a judicial investigation to determine the circumstances and details of the death.
The Public Prosecution had prosecuted the head of the municipality, who belongs to the Popular Movement Party, under arrest, on suspicion of committing the misdemeanor of failing to provide assistance to a person in danger, before he was placed in the local prison in Midelt pending his trial.
During the proceedings of the case, El Marbouh's defense team explained in a statement issued on October 6, that the judicial prosecution is limited to the misdemeanor of refraining from providing assistance to a person in danger, denying any link between the woman's death and any act of violence, and confirming that their client, according to their account, immediately requested help upon noticing that she was suffering from a health crisis.
