US President Donald Trump criticized the decision to award the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, considering the prize was awarded to an "obscure figure" and an "unknown" UN employee who achieved nothing, and that the prize committee had lost its credibility, according to his words.
Trump told his supporters during an election rally in Syracuse, New York, in support of the Republican candidate for state governor: "They gave the Nobel Peace Prize to someone I've never heard of, and nobody has ever heard of. It's an obscure figure."
Trump criticized the entire prize awarding process, adding: "It is an indelible stain on Norway and the people who made this shameful and disgraceful decision. The Nobel Peace Prize has lost its credibility forever at the hands of a small group of supporters of extremist ideologies."
He added that the United States will never forget this from Norway, according to him.
