Chakib Afialal is among the Moroccan political figures who have accumulated experience in party and institutional work. She belongs to the Progress and Socialism Party, and has previously held government responsibilities in the water sector, which has made her name associated with managing files related to water resources and relevant public policies.
Afialal was born in 1972 in the city of Tetouan and pursued her studies in science before engaging in political work through the Progress and Socialism Party. She also gained experience within elected institutions, where she was elected a member of the House of Representatives and participated in parliamentary work by discussing legislative and sectoral issues.
Afialal served as the Minister Delegate for Water in the government of Abdelilah Benkirane, and then continued her duties in the government headed by Saad Eddine El Othmani, before leaving her post in 2017. During this period, her name was associated with a number of files related to water resource management, water scarcity challenges, and the development of policies aimed at improving the management of this vital resource.
Her return to government responsibility, by taking over the portfolio of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development, comes in a context where the issues of energy security, the valorization of mineral resources, and the acceleration of the transition towards sustainable development are increasingly important.
This responsibility places before her files that intersect the stakes of investment, the development of renewable energies, and environmental protection, along with keeping pace with the transformations occurring in the sector at both the national and international levels.
