HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Daher
The Criminal Court of First Instance in Marrakech, in its session held yesterday, Monday, convicted a trainee at the same court and two other individuals who were prosecuted on suspicion of their involvement in acts related to fraud, bribery, and drug trafficking.
The court issued sentences of one and a half years of effective imprisonment and an effective fine of 5000 dirhams for each of the accused, "R.R." and "Y.A.". Meanwhile, the trainee "H.L." was sentenced to four months of effective imprisonment and an effective fine of 1000 dirhams, with an order to return the car and driving license to their rightful owners, and the confiscation of mobile phones and the bag in favor of the public treasury.
The same court also ruled that the first accused pay a fine of 68,975 dirhams to the Directorate of Customs, along with costs and the minimum enforceable period, in addition to the confiscation of the seized foreign currency in favor of the Directorate of Customs.
The details of the case date back to the beginning of October, when security forces arrested a Moroccan citizen residing abroad, who owns a restaurant in the Gueliz district. This followed the monitoring of an advertisement he posted on one of his social media pages offering his services to assist individuals with cases before the Marrakech Court of First Instance.
The Public Prosecution at the Marrakech Court of First Instance had previously prosecuted the arrested individuals on charges including "fraud, bribery, participation in drug trafficking, and facilitating the use of drugs by others by providing a place for it," and "drug trafficking, selling alcoholic beverages without a license, in addition to possessing and trading in recreational fireworks." The trainee was prosecuted on charges of "bribery and participation in fraud."
