The Criminal Chamber of Appeal for Financial Crimes at the Court of Appeal in Marrakech ruled today, Thursday, October 22, to acquit Mohamed Abahenini, President of the Ben Khlil Municipality in the Tan-Tan province, of all charges against him, marking a new development in the judicial case related to public fund management.
The appellate ruling comes after the First Instance Criminal Chamber for Financial Crimes in Marrakech had issued, on November 21, 2025, a verdict of two years in prison and a fine of 60,000 dirhams against the concerned individual. This was in relation to charges of misappropriation and embezzlement of public funds entrusted to the defendants by virtue of their positions, as well as forgery of official documents and their use, as reported by .
The initial verdict also included several other defendants in the case, with financial penalties imposed on some, in addition to establishing joint civil liability for some defendants in the civil aspect, and awarding civil compensation to the plaintiff.
With the issuance of the appellate decision acquitting Abahenini of all charges against him, the case witnesses a new judicial development, having moved from an initial conviction to acquittal at the appellate stage.
