HIBAPRESS – Yassin Ben Ramadan
The continued قطع of irrigation water in the commune of Taourat, in the province of Taourat, has caused concern among a number of those affected, in light of the repercussions of this situation on agricultural lands and fruit trees, and the accompanying economic and social difficulties that have pushed some farmers to search for alternative sources of income, after their agricultural activities have become facing increasing challenges.
In this context, the leader of the Taourat command held a communication meeting today, Friday, with a number of those affected, after they gathered near the command headquarters, where they expressed their suffering due to the قطع of irrigation water, highlighting the impact of this phenomenon on their agricultural properties and livelihoods, and demanding solutions that would mitigate the damages they have suffered.
According to the available data, this gathering allowed the affected to convey their concerns to the local authorities, through media statements in which they presented aspects of the suffering they are experiencing, in light of the difficulties associated with providing the necessary water for the continuation of agricultural activity, which constitutes a basic source of livelihood for a number of families in the region.
In a statement to "HIBAPRESS", one of the affected explained that the exacerbation of this situation has led a number of agricultural landowners to work in industrial units, after their agricultural properties became unable to provide a steady income, due to the difficulties they face in securing the necessary irrigation water to maintain their crops and trees.
The speaker added that the repercussions of the water قطع were not limited to the decline in agricultural productivity, but extended to trees that withered as a result of water scarcity or قطع, which led some landowners to cut them down and sell them as firewood to some local baths and ovens in the Taourat commune, in a scene that reflects the extent of the losses that can be incurred by agricultural exploitation when it becomes impossible to continue watering them.
This situation highlights, according to the available data, the extent of the challenges facing the affected farmers, especially those who rely on agricultural activity to secure their families' needs, as the decline in the ability to exploit the land not only affects daily income but may also affect the continuity of agricultural activity, in light of some landowners being forced to change the nature of their work and seek professional opportunities outside the sector.
During the communication meeting, the leader of the Taourat command listened to the various explanations provided by those affected regarding the circumstances of the irrigation water قطع and its consequences, with the aim of understanding the details of this situation and identifying the nature of the constraints presented, in preparation for searching for effective intervention measures that contribute to alleviating the suffering of those concerned.
The affected are counting on this communication to be the first step towards finding practical and sustainable solutions that ensure the provision of irrigation water and restore the ability to exploit agricultural lands, thereby helping to protect trees and crops and reduce the economic losses incurred by their owners.
Pending the outcome of the efforts to address this issue, finding a solution to the problem of irrigation water قطع remains one of the most prominent demands of the affected, given its direct link to the continuity of agricultural activity and the livelihoods of a number of families in the Taourat commune.
