The Football Supporters Europe association expressed its dismay at the "exorbitant prices" that the International Federation of Football (FIFA) intends to impose on tickets for the 2026 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, according to a statement issued on Thursday.
The association said it was "stunned" by the "astronomical prices… that FIFA imposed on the most loyal fans," i.e., those who can buy their tickets through their national associations to follow their national teams through what is known as "Participating Associations Allocations" (PAA). The association demanded that FIFA "immediately suspend the sale of PAA tickets," "launch consultations," and "reconsider ticket prices" until a "solution is reached that respects the traditions of the World Cup, its global character, and its cultural value." According to information obtained by the association, which confirms that it has seen "the price tables that FIFA published gradually and secretly," following a team from the first match to the final "will cost the fan no less than $6,900 (about 6,000 euros)," which is "almost five times the cost during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar." The association added, "To add insult to injury, the lowest price category will not be available" for +PAA+ tickets because these seats will be allocated "for general sale subject to dynamic pricing." It considered this "a huge betrayal of the traditions of the World Cup and a disregard for the role of fans in creating the spectacle." The association concluded by asking, "The file published in 2018 promised tickets starting from $21 (18 euros). Where are these tickets today?"
