HIBAPRESS – By El Ihyai
The General Consulate urgently intervened in the case of a woman who passed away in the consular district of "Onvers," following a distress call that carried all the diplomatic and humanitarian dimensions, emphasizing the solidarity of the Moroccan community to convey the message to the highest levels of the relevant ministry.
The only effective means for this appeal was a video recording in which the person making the appeal requested the launch of a digital campaign in an attempt to find a relative of the deceased to honor her with burial in the Islamic manner. The General Consulate in "Onvers" quickly responded to the call, and its social services mobilized, actively accompanied by the Consul General, Mr. Munir Katito, in search of the deceased woman's family. After a full week of searching and correspondence, it was revealed that she had only one sister, who also lives in precarious social conditions in Europe. The speed and effectiveness of the intervention, which characterized the General Consulate in this incident, was a lifeline for the deceased woman (K.Q.), who hails from the city of Tetouan in the north of the Kingdom, to overcome the administrative and procedural complications that usually hinder the burial process, especially in the absence of family or official authorities. In such cases, the file is referred to the judicial authorities in the host countries at the end of the process, so that the bodies are buried, even in non-Islamic cemeteries. The Moroccan community in the city of "Onvers" expressed its deep satisfaction after the announcement of the burial of the deceased in an Islamic cemetery with Moroccan rituals, towards the efforts made by the Moroccan Consul General and the administrative staff who also followed this file with all that is required of true patriotism and a sense of responsibility. It should be noted that the General Consulate in "Onvers" has broken a record in attracting Moroccans of the third and fourth generations through meetings clarifying the importance of these Moroccan youth obtaining identity cards and Moroccan passports after they were satisfied with Belgian nationality. This in itself is considered among the achievements of Moroccan diplomacy with distinguished consular efforts.
